Doris Lessing won the Nobel Prize for literature. Now you must be thinking… What does this have to do with game developement?

Well in this post at Washinton Post, she was unexpectedly unimpressed with her Nobel Prize!

Every game developer (and artist) for that matter can learn from Doris Lessing’s attitude. I am not saying that you should be unimpressed with prizes. I am referring to what she says later in the article at Washington Post.

She wasn’t particularly thrilled about the 1.5million dollar in cash or the Nobel, but was thrilled when a reporter asked if the Nobel Prize would garner more interest in her work.

Her words:

“I am very pleased if I get some new readers. Yes, that’s very nice. I hadn’t thought of that.”

She doesn’t care about the prize or the money. She cares about her art, and that is all that matters. She wants to share her stories. Her greatest prize was winning more readers…

And that is what game developers should have in mind when making games. It should be about making games and having the reward of people enjoying your game. It should not be about EA buying out BioWare (*cries*) to rake in more money.
