Hype… The bane of the gaming world. Every gamer has been taken up in “hype” and sadly been very dissapointed when the end product arrives.
As I sit here, I can feel the hype for Starcraft 2 flowing around me like medichlorines in the Force.
Each moment it grows ever stronger. I am tempted to say, “I feel a disturbance in the hype”, but I’d rather not in case a Star Wars fanboy whips out his lightsaber.
Hype has caused the downfall of many a game companies. Hype has this strange accumulative effect. If you manage to pull off a game title without failing the “hype”, your “hype” levels up (aka ding) for next product.
This is exactly what is happening with Blizzard. So far, they have miracously not dissapointed, and each time they have blown away pessimists’ doomsayings. So the “hype” level for Starcraft 2 is climbing exponentially each day!
What I am really trying to get at, is that although hype can be bad, it would be awesome to stand before an audience of gamers and show them your CGI trailer of your latest game. It must be awesome to get people hyped up about your newest/latest game.
