Stretching it oooouuutt…

February 12th, 2007

Don’t you always hate when you stretch things out, be it by procrastinating or by other means out of your control.

I will give a very good example.

Me.

I first started with Roach Toaster 2 back in June 2006. Just after I started I went on a long holiday. At that time it gave me a good reason to do some designing.

Forward a few weeks and an awesome game dev comp is announced which I cannot miss, so Roach Toaster 2 took a back seat. After the September holidays, I steamed full ahead into development.

Then came the December exams, and soon after the December holidays (which is our summer holidays basically). Fast forward into the new term and into grade 12. I have a load of homework up my sleeve plus I rehearse every night weeknight for a musical. When the weekend comes, I am so tired, I usually just relax and play some games.

So basically at this point, I get about 5-7 hours of devving in a week. Since this is a one-man job as a hobby, I feel as if I am really stretching out the development of Roach Toaster 2. It feels as if should have been done by December last year when in fact, when scrunched together, development is only about 3 months.

I hate that it feels like I am procrastinating. So today, I summed up some energy to make my development environment more fun and “productive” inducing.

I changed the way levels work in my game, which basically means, it skimmed off a lot off the file size and it looks much more “colourful” when programming.

Anyone with similar experiences?
