I’ll raise a glass to start of my indie dev blog! I hope this will be the start of an awesome blog…
What is this indie blog about?
This blog is here to detail my experiences in the indie industry… I try to make the analogy of the kid growing up. My perspective on the industry might be totally different in a few years time. This is what this blog is all about. A kid that is growing up in the industry giving his opinions on the indie world.
So where should I start? I should probably start with how I currently see the indie industry.
To me there are casual games, you know the whole mother/sister/family pazazz of games. Basically there are 3 types of casual games in my eyes.
1.) Match-3 Clone.
2.) Card games.
3.) And other clones.
While I am not really a fan of these types of games, one cannot blame developers for targeting a market in which they know they will sell. I’d rather not get into a “originality/familiarity†debate… That is for a whole blog. Mwhuahaha!
Then you get those indie developers that started somewhere small and worked their way into the AAA market, like Introversion. They obviously do not cater for the casual audience, but with original, tailor-made ideas they are doing well!
Then, the last group of developers I noticed is those that create their own niche. People who thrive on originality and create their audience. I am trying really hard not to go off a tangent here, but why should cater for an audience when one can create one’s own audience?
Anyway, that is my take on the indie world thus far…
Comprehensive? Nope.
Subjective? Possibly.
